Mommy Makeover in Turkey: Restoring Your Body After Pregnancy

Medical content: Op. Dr. Göktuğ Esmer · Updated: 4 October 2026

A mommy makeover is a combined surgical approach that addresses the changes pregnancy and breastfeeding leave behind within a single plan. It typically brings together a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty with muscle repair), breast surgery (lift, implants or reduction) and liposuction, selected according to each patient's needs. The aim is to correct loose skin, separated abdominal muscles and deflated breasts that diet and exercise cannot fix.

Dr. Göktuğ Esmer is a board-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon in Istanbul and a member of ISAPS. His approach to the mommy makeover is not "everything in one session" at any cost: operating time is kept within safe limits, procedures are staged when necessary and natural proportions are preserved. This page explains the whole journey for patients from the UK, Europe and the Middle East considering a mommy makeover in Turkey.

What is a mommy makeover?

During pregnancy the abdominal wall stretches, the vertical abdominal muscles can separate along the midline (diastasis recti), the skin loses elasticity and stretch marks appear. After breastfeeding the breasts often deflate and droop, and stubborn fat remains on the waist, hips and thighs. Some of these changes improve with exercise, but loose skin and separated muscles do not.

A mommy makeover is a coordinated way of planning the procedures that address these concerns; it is not a fixed package. For one patient a tummy tuck with a breast lift is enough, while another may combine a mini tummy tuck, liposuction and implants. Which procedures, in which order, and whether in one session or two stages, is decided by the examination and your priorities.

Who is a candidate?

A mommy makeover suits women who have completed their family or are not planning a pregnancy soon, are close to a stable target weight and are in good general health. Timing matters:

  • At least 6–12 months should have passed since your last birth so the body has completed its own recovery.
  • After breastfeeding ends, allow at least 3–6 months for breast volume to settle.
  • Weight should be close to target and stable for six months; large fluctuations undo the result.
  • Caesarean scars, hernias and previous abdominal surgery are taken into account in planning.

Smoking, uncontrolled chronic conditions, a history of thrombosis and a very high body mass index increase the risk of combined surgery, so preparation or a staged plan is advised in those cases. Mothers of young children should also arrange help with lifting and carrying for at least two weeks of recovery. If your concern is the abdomen alone, see our tummy tuck page.

Techniques and options

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and muscle repair

Excess skin below the navel is removed along the bikini line, the separated rectus muscles are stitched back together at the midline and the navel is repositioned. If the excess skin is limited to below the navel, a mini tummy tuck with a shorter scar may be sufficient. Muscle repair is what narrows the waist and improves posture.

Breast procedures

Deflation and sagging after breastfeeding are treated with a breast lift; where volume has also been lost, a lift is combined with an implant; large, heavy breasts are reduced. In suitable patients, fat harvested by liposuction can be transferred to the breasts. See our breast surgery page for the options.

Liposuction

Stubborn fat on the waist, back, hips and thighs is removed; combined with a tummy tuck it defines the waistline. The harvested fat can, if desired, be transferred to the hip dips or buttocks.

One session or two stages?

The key measure of a safe combination is total operating time. Dr. Esmer prefers plans that stay within roughly six hours in a single session; longer combinations raise the risk of thrombosis, bleeding and wound problems. A tummy tuck and breast surgery can be performed together in most patients; if extensive liposuction, an arm lift or a thigh lift is also needed, a second session is planned 3–6 months later. Staging is a safety choice, not a compromise.

First consultation and planning

The process can begin with an online assessment: standardised photographs of the abdomen and breasts, height and weight, number of pregnancies, breastfeeding status and your goals allow Dr. Esmer to outline a likely plan and advise on one session versus two stages.

At the in-person examination, the amount and elasticity of abdominal skin, the width of the muscle separation, any hernia, the position of a caesarean scar, and the degree of breast sagging and tissue volume are measured. If implants are being considered, sizers are tried in a bra. Liposuction areas are marked.

Tests include a blood count, clotting tests, biochemistry, an anaesthetic review and thrombosis risk scoring. Patients having breast surgery are asked for a breast ultrasound or mammogram according to age and family history, and an ultrasound of the abdominal wall is arranged if a hernia is suspected. The order of procedures, duration, scar positions, drains and the recovery timeline are then confirmed.

Before surgery

In a combined operation, preparation directly determines the quality of recovery:

  • Smoking and nicotine: stop at least four weeks before and for four weeks after surgery; tummy tuck wound healing is highly sensitive to nicotine.
  • Blood thinners and aspirin: aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, omega-3 and herbal supplements are paused around ten days beforehand; prescription anticoagulants are adjusted only with medical approval.
  • Contraceptive pill: a four-week break may be advised because of thrombosis risk.
  • Alcohol: none in the final week.
  • Weight and nutrition: no crash dieting before surgery; a balanced, protein-rich diet is recommended.
  • Fasting: nothing to eat or drink from eight hours before surgery.
  • Home set-up: arrange help with childcare and housework for the first two weeks, and keep frequently used items at waist height.
  • What to bring: passport or ID, medication list, a loose front-opening top, loose trousers and slippers.
  • Garments: the abdominal binder and support bra are provided by the team.

The operation day

You are admitted in the morning. With you standing, Dr. Esmer completes the markings on the abdomen, breasts and liposuction areas. After the anaesthetic review, surgery is performed under general anaesthesia with pneumatic compression devices on the legs, active warming and, where indicated, an anticoagulant injection.

Total duration is usually 4–6 hours depending on the scope. The order is typically liposuction, tummy tuck, then breasts. One or two drains are placed after the tummy tuck, and the binder and support bra are fitted.

You stay in hospital for one or two nights with pain control, fluids and assisted walking from the first hours. Once the drains and dressings have been checked, you are discharged.

Recovery and aftercare

The tummy tuck sets the pace of mommy makeover recovery; the breast and liposuction areas follow alongside. Tightness in the abdomen and difficulty standing fully upright are normal in the first week.

  • Posture: walk slightly bent forward with hips flexed for the first 7–10 days to avoid tension on the abdominal closure.
  • Sleeping position: on your back in a "beach chair" position with pillows under the knees and the head raised; no side or front sleeping for three weeks.
  • Drains: usually removed within 3–7 days once daily output falls.
  • Garments: the abdominal binder for six weeks and the support bra for 4–6 weeks, day and night.
  • Showering: once the drains are out, generally within 48–72 hours.
  • Activity and lifting: walking from day one. No lifting above 4–5 kg, including children, for 2–3 weeks; no abdominal exercise or strenuous sport for six weeks.
  • Scar care: silicone gel or tape begins once the wounds have healed and continues for 12 months; keep scars out of the sun.
  • Lymphatic drainage massage: may be used on liposuction areas with Dr. Esmer's approval.

Most swelling settles by 6–8 weeks; the abdominal contour and breast shape settle over 3–6 months, and scars fade over 12 months.

Risks and how they are minimised

Combined surgery carries a somewhat higher risk than the same procedures performed alone, which is why safety limits guide the plan.

  • Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism: reduced by limiting operating time, compression devices, early walking, risk scoring and anticoagulant injections where indicated.
  • Seroma (fluid collection): limited by drains, the binder and internal quilting sutures.
  • Wound-healing problems: more likely in smokers and with tight closures; prevented by the nicotine ban and measured skin removal.
  • Bleeding and haematoma: reduced by stopping blood thinners and meticulous surgical haemostasis.
  • Infection: kept low with sterile technique and prophylactic antibiotics.
  • Sensory changes: numbness below the navel and in the nipples is usually temporary.
  • Scar quality and asymmetry: depend on individual healing; improved by measurement-based planning and scar care.
  • Future pregnancy: can undo the result, which is why surgery is advised after your family is complete.

A fully equipped hospital, an experienced anaesthetic team and an operating plan that does not exceed six hours are the most important factors in managing these risks.

For international patients

For mothers travelling from the UK, Europe and the Middle East, planning is largely completed through the online assessment. In Istanbul you have your examination, tests and final planning, and surgery usually takes place within a day or two of arrival.

For a mommy makeover we recommend staying 10–14 days in Istanbul. This covers drain removal, suture checks and a final review before you fly. Because long flights after a tummy tuck carry thrombosis risk, compression stockings, hourly walks, plenty of fluids and, where needed, an anticoagulant injection are planned; Dr. Esmer confirms when you are fit to fly.

The coordination team arranges airport transfers, recovery-friendly accommodation near the hospital and an interpreter if needed. Once home, follow-up continues through WhatsApp photo updates and scheduled video calls. See our international patients page for details.

How the price is determined

Mommy makeover Turkey cost is one of the most common searches, but under Turkish regulations medical services cannot advertise prices and there is no price list on this website. A personalised quotation is provided after evaluation.

The main factors that influence the fee are:

  • The procedures included (full or mini tummy tuck, breast lift, implants, reduction, liposuction areas)
  • Whether the plan is a single session or two stages
  • The brand and type of implant, if used
  • Operating time, anaesthesia and the number of nights in hospital
  • Pre-operative tests, garments and medication
  • Accommodation and transfer packages for international patients

After your online assessment you receive a transparent quote itemising these elements.

Recovery Timeline

The timeline below shows a typical course; healing speed varies between patients.

First 24–48 hours
Hospital observation, pain control and short assisted walks. Drains, binder and support bra in place; rest in the beach-chair position.
Days 3–7
Discharge and first checks. Drains come out as output falls, and showering follows. Continue walking slightly bent forward.
Week 2
Suture checks; posture gradually straightens. Light activity at home, but no lifting children or heavy items.
Weeks 3–4
Most patients return to desk work. Sleep on your back continues; walking distance increases.
Week 6
Binder is stopped, light exercise and abdominal work begin gradually. Underwired bras once approved.
Months 3–6
Swelling settles; the abdominal contour and breast shape take their final form. Scar care continues with silicone products.
Month 12
Scars fade and the final result is assessed. Annual review is planned.

Frequently Asked Questions – Mommy Makeover in Turkey: Restoring Your Body After Pregnancy

How soon after giving birth can I have a mommy makeover?

At least 6–12 months after your last birth and at least 3–6 months after breastfeeding ends. A stable weight is also important for a lasting result.

Can everything be done in one session?

A tummy tuck and breast surgery can be safely combined in most patients. If the total would exceed roughly six hours, additional procedures are moved to a second stage 3–6 months later.

Can I get pregnant after a mommy makeover?

Medically yes, but a new pregnancy can undo the abdominal and breast results. That is why surgery is recommended once your family is complete.

Will exercise fix my separated abdominal muscles?

Mild separation may improve partly with exercise; significant diastasis and loose skin do not. During a tummy tuck the muscles are repaired with sutures at the midline.

What happens to my caesarean scar?

The tummy tuck incision is usually planned to include the existing caesarean scar, leaving a single bikini-line scar.

When can I lift my children?

Lifting more than 4–5 kg is not advised for the first 2–3 weeks, so picking up small children should wait. Plan help at home for this period.

How visible are the scars?

The abdominal scar runs along the bikini line and is hidden by underwear; breast scars depend on technique and may be around the areola and vertical. With consistent care they fade noticeably over 12 months.

How long should I stay in Istanbul?

We recommend 10–14 days for a mommy makeover. This covers drain removal, suture checks and a final review before flying; follow-up then continues via WhatsApp and video calls.
